My philosophy on reading is simple.

I was never a big reader. To be honest, I hated reading. I never saw the point. At one point, I swore I would never pick up a book again. Now I love to read and do it all the time. Who would have thought?!

A few years ago, I had asked some close friends for some book recommendations. I was looking to ignite my brain after being stuck in an intellectual rut. I started reading here and there, but nothing very consistent until the later part of 2017. In January 2018, I set a goal for myself to read 10 pages a day and complete 12 books that year. What I had thought to be a lofty goal, by March of that year I had already read 10 books. So I increased my goal to 24 books for the year.

My philosophy became simple: Read 10 pages a day. No matter how busy I am or what happens in a day, I can always find the time to read at least 10 pages.

So you might ask: What do you read? My answer: Anything that sounds interesting to me! I started off with some military books, because I always wanted to be in the military. I then moved on to personal growth books (Note: I like the term “personal growth” rather than “self help”). From there, i started reading biographies and autobiographies of people who interested me. Now, I mix in some fiction, which I have since fallen in love with.

The bottom line: BE CURIOUS! If you are curious about a person, a subject, a culture, a trend, read about it. No matter what it is, just pick up a book and read about it! Start small and build from there. Even if you only read 5 pages a day, what matters is that you are reading something. I know this sounds hard (especially if you are an ADD-er), but if I can do it, so can you!
